According to national broadcaster ORF, the gunman was a student at the school and took his own life.
The newspaper Kronen Zeitung confirmed five fatalities, but sources close to the police told exxpress that the death toll may be as high as eight, including the perpetrator. According to Heute, the shooter reportedly committed suicide in a restroom.
Austrian media report that both students and teachers are among the victims.
Police stated that an operation is currently underway on Dreierschützengasse, where a secondary school is located, but declined to provide further details.
Citing local police, ORF reported that several people, including students and teachers, have sustained serious injuries.
