An elderly man has filed a police complaint after being attacked by a dog owned by the mother of Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas. The man expressed frustration that the dog’s owner did not apologize or show concern following the incident.
The attack took place on Monday morning in Vouliagmeni, a seaside suburb of Athens.
The victim, Giorgos Lamprou, a local restaurant owner, stated that the large dog, resembling a German shepherd, bit him on the thigh without warning as he was walking near a café.
The dog was reportedly on a leash that was approximately three to four meters long.
“I felt a sharp grip on my thigh from behind. I turned around and saw a beast—I thought it was a bear or a wolf,” Lamprou told iefimerida.gr. “It ripped my pants. I couldn’t move. I fell and nearly lost consciousness.”
Patrons from the café helped Lamprou and took him to a nearby hospital in Voula, where he received stitches, a tetanus shot, and other medication.
“The pain was unbearable,” he said.
Lamprou claims that the dog’s owner, identified as Stefanos Tsitsipas’ mother, immediately left the scene with the dog and did not check on him or offer an apology.
“She just took the dog and left. What if it had bitten a small child in the neck? I could have had a heart attack,” Lamprou said.
Following the attack, Lamprou filed a formal complaint, prompting local authorities to seek her under Greece’s “in flagrante” legal process for minor offenses. If located within a specified timeframe, she could face immediate legal consequences.
Local residents had reportedly warned the woman before about the potential danger posed by her dog and advised her to muzzle it.
Lamprou echoed these concerns, stating, “She acted as if nothing happened—just because she’s someone important. But I’m someone too. Everyone matters.”
He emphasized that he is not seeking compensation, but rather accountability. “I just want a simple apology and for her to control the dog. Next time it might be worse.”
