A strong earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale was recorded at 2:30 a.m. in the sea area between Santorini and Amorgos.
The tremor startled residents of Santorini, Amorgos, and nearby islands, waking many of them in the early hours of Tuesday. According to the revised report from the Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake had a shallow focal depth of 7.7 kilometers, with its epicenter located 12 kilometers southwest of Arkesini, Amorgos.
This was the most significant seismic event to occur in the region in quite some time.
